HOW AN OSTEOPATH CAN HELP YOU
WHAT IS OSTEOPATHY?
In osteopathic medicine, understanding the links between different parts of a person and how they function together is the fundamental principle. This holistic approach to medicine allows the practitioner to assess a person as their parts, individually as well as collectively. Essentially Osteopaths have an astute understanding of pain and or dysfunction in all parts of the body.
Using a variety of methods including soft tissue techniques, stretching, joint mobilization, exercise prescription, advice and discussion, dysfunction in the body can be identified and appropriate treatment provided.
The importance of understanding each patient as an individual with unique issues and needs is vital to osteopathy. Our consults are traditionally longer so we can ensure we listen and take in the most important part of a medical consultation which is the patient.
CORE PRINCIPLES OF OSTEOPATHIC PHILOSOPHY
An individual body is a whole interrelated unit in which the body’s structure, function and intention are dependent upon each other.
The body self-regulates and has the inherent capacity to protect and repair itself naturally without intervention.
Disease or injury occurs when the body’s normal adaptability is disrupted, or when environmental changes overcome our capacity for self-maintenance.
In Australia, osteopaths are government-registered practitioners who complete a minimum of five years university training in anatomy, physiology, pathology, general medical diagnosis and osteopathic techniques.
Osteopaths are primary healthcare practitioners and are trained to recognise conditions requiring medical referral. They are also trained to perform standard medical examinations of the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory and nervous systems.

We take a full medical history. Taking a thorough history and understanding the right questions to ask can provide us with a clearer path of working out what is going to help you.

We can Assess you via Telehealth: We can assess your injury or pain by asking you to perform certain movements or by asking someone who is with you to help assess your injury or pain. With a trained eye it’s amazing what can be picked up even through video!

We can review any medical information you have at hand or on file: Osteopaths can read medical reports, imaging reports, special tests etc.

We can form a diagnosis. We can provide a distinct diagnosis or if we can’t we can provide you with a list of likely diagnosis
